Multnomah County and the City of Portland Temporarily Suspend Evictions

landlord tenant law

Due to the COVID-19 Outbreak, the City of Portland and Multnomah County announced Tuesday that they would temporarily be suspending all eviction processing. Tenants will need to provide proof of hardship due to shutdowns that affect their jobs, childcare, or care of a loved one. Tenants will need to provide letters from their employer, school, or doctor to their landlords, as to why they are currently not able to pay. Tenants will still owe rent, but will have up to 6 months to pay the missed payments. Landlords who fail to follow these guidelines could face civil damages.

All current eviction proceedings were halted on Monday and will not be heard by the courts until at least March 30th.
